mesothelioma nhs
New medical research has isolated a gene that appears to protect against lung cancer, has been welcomed by activists of asbestos as a potentially breakthrough mass.
Mesothelioma, which is caused by the ingestion of asbestos dust, has resulted in the deaths of many former manual workers in the UK. Around 2000 people each year are diagnosed with the disease, resulting in a huge cost to the NHS and the terrible suffering of patients who have to undergo chemotherapy for cancer fighting and other medical procedures.
With advances in the hope
The new research, by scientists at the University of Nottingham, has revealed a possibility for treatment of mesothelioma, but not only from other forms of cancer. The scientists found that samples of lung cancer analyzed were missing a gene called LIMD1, who believe that acts as a depressant of the tumor in the body.
Ed Yong, of Cancer Research UK, said: "This study fills in another piece of the puzzle of lung cancer.
Anne Craig, whose husband David died of the disease, said he hopes for a cure for the disease.
"This breakthrough could have very important implications for research on mesothelioma. Researchers found that people without this particular gene were more likely to die of lung cancer, but seemed to be protected if they do so.
Personal injury claims
Mesothelioma is a major cause of personal injury claims related to work in the UK and many thousands of families have received compensation from their former loved ones employers. A recent ruling in the High Court found that relatives were also able to claim compensation from insurance companies, even whether the company was responsible for the disease had left the company.
Just as the workers themselves, family members of workers have also been affected by the disease. In a recent case, a pensioner has been awarded a £ 250,000 payment after his wife was exposed to asbestos while washing her clothes.
"I am angry with the company and myself, and feel guilty because Patricia had the disease of my clothes. Money will not bring back Patricia, but at least Joanna ensure care for the future, "said Mr.
Unfortunately, mesothelioma is an aggressive type and is usually fatal cancer that results from the exposure to asbestos. This disease occurs when microscopic asbestos fibers are inhaled and get lodged in the lining of the lungs.

Mesothelioma chances of survival are greater if the disease is detected early. However, this cancer is difficult to detect in its early stages.
