Entering the second half of 2009 there are numerous issues that affect the composition IUPAT in Ontario, Canada.
• Unemployment in Ontario for all trades IUPAT is between 15-18% and increasing among our members. It is very important to keep in constant contact with his office Union and representatives to receive the latest information on the work situation.

Employment Insurance Reform – Ontario Federation of Labor
• Legislative reform is necessary to promote equity for workers at work and transition: raising benefits for at least 60% of normal earnings, using the best of an employee 12 weeks of employment;
• Reduce the hours of qualifying to a uniform standard across Canada;
• Eliminating the waiting period of 2 weeks;
• Eliminate income from pensions, holidays pay, severance pay and termination of all monies received from others at the time of dismissal;
• As a result of bankruptcy and insolvency, the money owed to workers must be paid as a priority.
Education:
The OIFSC now offers all new candidates and current members IUPAT the opportunity to prepare in writing a Certificate of Qualification of paint and glass. Registered apprentices do not qualify for this program. In contact with OIFSC at 416-635-7300 for information about the next class and register. The legislation was introduced on May 13 to establish the School of Crafts, a school for modernizing the regulatory Learning of Ontario and trades of the system. The College will promote trade and attract more people to the trades, help make it easier for workers internationally trained to become certified, joint training and certification standards to serve the skilled trades and the public interest research to train for the future, and give ownership trades sector critical decisions on issues of mandatory certification and apprentice ratios.
Health and safety:
The STAR program is still active. An amendment to the program will now recognize some training outside the training centers the discretion of the local union representative.
CSAO's annual report was published recently with some interesting facts that might interest you:
• Top 3 Causes Lost Time Injury is more effort / Repetitive strain, beaten by / against objects falling;
• Disorders related musculoskeletal injuries are the leading cause of injury;
• increased deaths from occupational disease in pleural mesothelioma particularly as a result of exposure to asbestos;
• noise-induced hearing loss is still a leading cause of non-permitted fatal occupational disease claims.
The vacation pay:
