This is problematic because the scar tissue in the lungs is unable to make the process of gas exchange by the lungs. If scarring occurs enough, your breathing capacity is reduced. This can greatly reduce quality of life such as exercise and as to be almost impossible.
Is there a cure for asbestosis? No. The removal of scar tissue from inside the lungs is theoretically possible, but there is no procedure to bring the material underlying lung to a state where gas exchange can occur. Without that, the ability to the lungs will remain limited. Although asbestosis is rarely terminal, it can reduce the quality of one's life.
